Screening the Present

This module examines the products and practices of contemporary screen culture. The emphasis of the course is on the examination of screen representation as a site of engagement with contemporary concerns such as cultural dislocation, migration, conflict, neo-liberalism, ethics and subjectivity.  The focus of the module is to ask how these products and processes enable meaningful interrogation and illumination of contemporary social and political conditions. A range of theoretical and critical writing will be introduced which students will apply to the varied cultural products of contemporary screen culture.
