Module Overview

Media Policy: national and international dimensions

The module will introduce students to both the national and international dimensions of media policy. It will evaluate the contexts, objects and contents of media policy and their expression at different levels and sites of governance. It will explore the political-economic, historical and institutional contexts of policy-making and evaluate its implications for both citizens and practitioners of the media. Key themes will include the way in which the media are now being re-shaped relative to a wide-scale structural change of a technological, spatial, political-economic and socio-cultural nature and the role of policy therein.

 

Module Aims 

• To provide students with knowledge of many areas of media policy

• Develop student awareness of the policy and politics which underpins their practice 

• Enable students to undertake policy studies in their area of interest
