Module Overview

Sound and Audio Design

This module aims to give students an in-depth understanding of the importance of sound in interactive digital media artefacts alongside the core concepts of sound design. The core principles of digital audio recording, processing and deployment will be covered. Full training in modern sound design technologies will be given, alongside methods for creating intrinsic and extrinsic soundscapes, sound effects and music for use in projects throughout the course of the degree. Students will explore sound synthesis, the physics of sound, the seven attributes of sound, psychoacoustics, human speech production, listening modes, soundscapes, musique concrete, audio aesthetics, musical composition and the physiological impact of sound.
