The aim of this model is to provide students with an understanding of operations and quality management in a contemporary business environment.. The module specifically examines operations strategy, total quality management, quality awards, lean operations, inventory management, economic order quantities, sustainable business processes, product and process design, capacity strategies, facility location and layout.

Quality Management

Importance of quality, total quality management, ISO, six sigma, cost of quality, the effects of quality.

Business Processes and Technologies

Product and service design, process planning; facility layouts; technology in design and operations.

Capacity Planning and Facilities Location

Defining and measuring capacity; capacity strategies and planning; strategies for meeting and managing demand; types of facilities and location decisions.

Inventory Management and Scheduling

Lean operations, economic order quantities; stock turnover and materials requirements systems
