This module is designed to provide students with a detailed overview of the processes and techniques of analysisng sporting performance. Within the module, students will be introduced to the practical methods of collecting technical and physical performance data as well as the processes of analysing and visualising this data.
Manual Notation System:
Deciding what information and why; design a hand based notation system; determine accuracy and reliability; collating and presenting the data.
Video and Computerized Analysis:
Video technology; existing systems; computerised analysis software.
Technical and Tactical Analysis:
Set plays; strategy; playing systems; tactics and technique.
Developing and Testing a Performance Analysis System
Design of notational analysis system; reliability of methods; system validity.
Wearable Technology for Sports Performance Analysis
Athlete monitoring; Global Positioning Systems; heart rate monitoring.
Health and Wellness Monitoring
Methods of health and wellness monitoring; internal training loads; identification of injury risks.
Data Mining
Cleaning data; data sorting; data indexing; databasing; data queries; data visualisation.
Methods used to achieve the module learning outcomes will include lectures, laboratory practicals, interpretation of data, case studies, problem-solving exercises, video presentations, self-directed learning and computer-based learning.
