A range of experiments will be covered during this module aligned with the theoretical lecture based modules. There will be a designated webcourses module containing all information pertaining to the experiments. In addition students will use webcourse, Google drive or alternative online platforms for recording and dissemination of experimental results, reports reflections etc. On a weekly basis the student will submit a statement of intent prior to the commencement of the experiment and a reflection of his/her learning upon completion of the experiment. In addition they are required to  keep an electronic journal which will be assessed for each experiment. Over the course of the year at specified times the student will submit several formal reports, the first of which may be resubmitted to respond to feedback on first draft.   The student will also carry out a peer review of another student's report.

 

In general, students will have to demonstrate an acceptable level of ability in the following core competencies;

  1. Designing, building and debugging simple circuits
  2. Extracting relevant equations from theory, plotting necessary graphs and extracting relevant data.
  3. Writing professional-level abstracts
  4. Completing Uncertainty Analysis
  5. Communicating results and in professional manner

Problem solving, self-directed learning, small group teaching and peer instruction.
