Professional Skills

The aims of this module are for the student: to understand the framework within which sports science and health support operates; to appreciate professional issues, including codes of conduct, liability etc. The module is portfolio based which will incorporate Work experience/ Professional development/ Volunteer work over a 3 year period and will be assessed in the semester 6.

Management:

The course coordinator will be responsible for the management of the student vocational skills programme. This includes organising placement workshops for all students due for placement. The workshops will cover all aspects of the placement, such as policies and procedures of placement, advice / assistance in compiling CVs, interview skills and assessment procedures.

Students:

Students will assess competency and knowledge and identify areas for professional development; Set learning goals; Define and commence the process for meeting the learning goals; Record progress; Measure the learning outcomes; Share experience

Strategies:

Students can utilise a blend of: Work-place experience; Professional development opportunities; Volunteering opportunites. A miimum of 4 seperate vocational experiences can be counted for final assessment.

Methods used to achieve the module learning outcomes will include lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals, interpretation of data, case studies, problem-solving exercises, video presentations, self-directed learning and computer-based learning
