The main objective of the module is to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to be able to undertake and interpret research (both quantitative and qualitative) within the areas of sports studies. An underlying theme will also be the development of students’ presentation skills
RESEARCH METHODS:
Introduction to statistical packages (Minitab/ SPSS) on networked PCs: reading and entering data, SPSS commands; saving, inputting and printing the SPSS worksheet, tables and simple statistical and graphical analysis; Introduction to statistical support software (e.g. Stats for the terrified); Types of numerical data; Exploring data for the underlying distribution; Difference testing for two groups/conditions (both parametric and non-parametric); Correlation (both parametric and non-parametric); Linear regression; Chi-Squared
Methods used to achieve the module learning outcomes will include lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals, interpretation of data, case studies, problem-solving exercises, video presentations, self-directed learning and computer-based learning
