Fieldwork

This module provides students with an opportunity to develop skills and competencies working within a social and community development environment. It also provides students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge and understanding gained from earlier modules in a practical workplace setting. Fieldwork provides the essential balance between theory and practice in the social and community development course. The aim of the module is focused on developing the skills and competencies of students in a social and community development organisation for the purpose of future careers in the field. Students will undertake fieldwork for a twelve week period in an appropriate social and community development setting under the supervision and support of a competent and experienced professional. Fieldwork will also involve regular contact with the college course and their designated college supervisor. Specific RequirementsGarda Vetting: At time of entry/registration in Year 1 of the Social and Community Development Course, students are required to undertake the ITB Garda Vetting procedures. This involves accurate completion of the ITB ‘Application Form for Garda Vetting’ (4FAD22). Students are required to have obtained Garda clearance prior to commencement of fieldwork.

Pre-Fieldwork Workshops

specific workshops selected from the following: time management, stress management, conflict management, the use of media in social and community development work, policy / legislative developments in current social and community development practice.

Fieldwork 2 (Fieldwork agency/organisation)

- 35hrs per week to be agreed with Fieldwork Agencyo 30hrs direct contact fieldworko 5 hrs student’s own study time (at discretion of agency to undertake in-house or at home).- Support & Supervisiono Ideally 1hr per week- Assessmento 2 Tripartite Meetings (Student, Fieldwork Supervisor & College Supervisor)

Post-Fieldwork Reflection Workshops

- The final week of term will be focused on facilitating students in a structured reflection of their own fieldwork experience.
