Module Overview

Advanced Fieldwork

This module will support learners to build on the skills, knowledge and qualities developed during their previous fieldwork placement and subsequent modules. This module provides learners with the opportunity to continue the process of professional formation and to further develop their skills, knowledge and competencies within a community development or youth work practice setting. Learners will be supported to engage in critical reflection on how their fieldwork has influenced the development of a practice underpinned by professional values and standards. Learners will be supervised by a fieldwork supervisor from within the organisation they are placed and will have regular support and communication from their academic supervisor and fieldwork coordinator. Learners are required to have engaged in TU Dublin Blanchardstown Campus Garda Vetting procedures (see 4FAD22) and to have obtained Garda clearance prior to the commencement of fieldwork.

Pre-Fieldwork Workshops

These workshops will focus on preparing learners to engage effectively in a professional, value based workplace. The workshops will focus on a variety of topics including: current practice issues in the field, relevant standards (international and national), policy/legislative developments in current youth work and community development practice, critical reflection ; self-care; exploring the process of professional formation.

Fieldwork 2 (Fieldwork agency/organisation)

A fieldwork information pack with all relevant documentation will be forwarded to the fieldwork organisation by the Fieldwork Co-ordinator in TU Dublin Blanchardstown in advance of fieldwork commencing.Learners are to complete 32 direct contact hours per week (as agreed with fieldwork supervisor) and 4.5 hours of self-directed learning / study. Support & Supervision will be provided by the fieldwork supervisor, ideally up to 1hr per week, this will be agreed in the supervision contract. Assessment for this module will take place over 2 Tripartite Meetings (Student, Fieldwork Supervisor & Academic Supervisor) – See Assessment below.

Post-Fieldwork Reflection Workshops

These post-fieldwork workshops will focus on facilitating students in a structured reflection of their own fieldwork experience and professional development.
