Skills for Professional Practice

The purpose of this module is to develop the student's knowledge skills and competence in their role as a practitioner in the field of community development and youth work. The module provides practical skills grounded in the values, philosophy and approaches of community development and youth work from which learners may ground their concrete experience gained in their fieldwork. Advanced Fieldwork module runs in parallel with this module.The focus is on honing the core skills for community development and youth work practitioners, namely; facilitation, active listening, trust-building, group collaboration, committee skills, organising, strategic planning, negotiation, political skills, and human resource management (recruitment and interviewing skills) media skills and conflict management skills.
