This aim of this module is to provide students with the awareness, knowledge and personal skills necessary to define the roles and demonstrate the tasks of effective front line managers within social care settings. This module will introduce learners to the development of both classical and contemporary and management theories. This module introduces, develops and models concepts of organisation, management and organisational behaviour and performance. The integration of both theory and practice is central to this module.
Topic 1 Management Theory
Exploration and application of classical and contemporary management theory and practice.
Topic 2 Core Management Functions
Identify and and critically explore effective management styles and strategies. Frameworks for management functions, planning, organizing, decision making, controlling, participation and power.
Topic 3 Managing Organisations
Diagnosing and confronting critical management issues unique to social care settings. Examination of organisational theory and structure, the role of culture, mission, vision and values. Best practice in organisational procedures and policy development.
