This module will explore key issues at the forefront of social care practice. Students will evaluate and debate these issues from both a national and international perspective. Emerging issues from social care policy, models of best practice, service user led models and models of best practice from an international perspective will be examined in the module.
Social Care Policy
Students will explore key social care policy developments and their impact on social care practice. Current issues such as housing policy, inspection and registration etc will be examined
Practice Developments
Models of best practice in social care work from national and international perspectives will be examined. Examples of emerging issues include models of best practice in residential care, work-training employment options, community integration, self care etc will be examined. A comparative analysis of international case study examples of best practice in social care will be incorporated into the module
Service User Perspectives
Students will explore current service user led models from both a national and international perspective. Developments in relation to the inclusion of service users in the recruitment of staff will be examined. Emerging issues such as advocacy, inclusion of service users in forums, Board's of Management and other management and decision making opportunities will be explored
International best practice case studies
Key international best practice developments in social care provision will be examined. A range of topics will be explored in this section which are related to social care practice.
