This module introduces fundamental statistical concepts and allows the student to become comfortable using data. The skills acquired in this module will allow the student to engage with important and relevant topics in a modern computing syllabus.
DATA PRESENTATION
Collection, classification, tabulation, and graphical representation of data. Continuous and discrete data. Class boundaries. Frequency distributions. Histograms. Cumulative frequency distributions and ogives
DATA ANALYSIS
Sample and population. Statistics and parameter. Measurements of central tendency: mean, median, and mode. Measures of dispersion: range, standard deviation, quartile deviation, and coefficient of variation. Quartiles.
BASIC PROBABILITY
Sample space. Mutually exclusive and independent events. Basic laws of probability. And, Or and Not rules, simple and general forms. Conditional probability.
THE NORMAL DISTRIBUTION
Normal distribution. Confidence Intervals
HYPOTHESIS TESTING
Hypothesis testing on samples, hypothesis testing on small samples.
