This module builds on previous modules in the programme in the area of structural mechanics, analysis and design, and further develops students’ understanding of structural behaviour and structural intuition through use of various analysis approaches and techniques
*Curricular information is subject to change
- Classifying structures - stability, determinacy and indeterminacy
- Qualitative analysis of beams, frames and trusses
- Deflection of beams using Macaulay’s method
- Deflection of trusses using virtual work
- Analysis of indeterminate beams using Moment Distribution;
- Computer analysis of beams, frames and trusses using tools such as Excel and LinPro:
Two hours of lectures per week, and 1 hour of tutorial per week, including some sessions in the computer laboratory
