Residence and domicile of individuals

Study of the rules regarding residence and domicile and the impact of same on the Irish income tax liability of individuals

Income tax

Detailed knowledge of the calculation of the Income tax liability of an individual with particular emphasis on the impact of losses, including losses created by excess capital allowances, and on the restriction of tax reliefs for high income individuals and the taxation of termination benefits.

Corporate residency

The rules of residence for corporate bodies and their effect in determining a liability to tax. Introduction to double taxation relief for companies.

Corporation and other Tax liabilities of Groups and Companies

Computational provisions for determining liabilities to corporation tax including self assessment provisions. Determination, use and treatment of losses in corporate bodies and the availability of losses to offset against group liabilities including the reliefs available against other income and chargeable gains of companies and groups. Treatment of pre-trading expenditure and the exemption for start-up companies. Examination of Dividend Withholding Tax liabilities of companies and the interaction of Capital Gains Tax provisions including Development Land Gains with Corporation Tax. Close company provisions including definitions, specific transactions relating to Directors and Participators. Calculation of surcharge and the effects of these transactions on Directors and Participators.
