The History of Architectural Tectonics provides an outline of the major tectonic movements in architecture from pre-history to the contemporary. It is delivered in three main sections:
Ancient History (up to Ancient Egypt)
The foundation of the modern world ( from Romanesque to 21st century)
Contemporary Issues (21st century onwards)
Through a series of key buildings and their protagonists the module aims to provide a multi-faceted perspective on the means, motives and opportunities that lie behind the production of architecture and its impact on society as a whole. A key element in the discussion is the role in which science and (architectural) technology plays in delivering the character and shape of our built environment.
