Module Overview

Technical Design Studio: Collaboration and Synthesis

The Technical Design Studio - Collaboration and Synthesis module involves the application of the technical knowledge, understanding and skills to propose technical design solutions for existing buildings. The emphasis in this module will be on the retrofitting and upgrading of existing buildings including those with a conservation heritage value. The learner will be introduced to best practice measures in low energy retrofitting, refurbishment works and building conservation methodologies.

The module supports the development of the learners' knowledge of the use of Building Information Modelling in collaborative environments and how to apply current best practice approaches to BIM management processes. Learners will initially be part of a collaborative design team comprising fellow students and industry guests to survey, document, and analyse a selected existing building.
