Work Based Learning

The student will undertake a work placement in an approved hospitality outlet during the first year of study (During the semester students will work in industry one day a week and at the end of semester 2 will work in industry for 8 weeks). Total hours 400 to be completed in this allocated time only. The placement programme will enable the Learner to develop an awareness of the working environment and to apply theoretical and practical knowledge gained in their studies. This placement is supported by the university together with a workplace mentor. The aim of the placement is to introduce the learner to structured employment in the culinary arts sector and for the learner to develop an understanding of the organisation and its procedures.

Communication/ Customer Care

Understand the importance of the communication processes within the enterprise.

Teamwork

Ability to work as a team member.

Performance

Evaluating performance, multitasking, setting and achieving goals, planning work schedule, ability to work unsupervised. Reflective work practice. Reflect on and analyse experience and learning in the work environment and keep records of this learning.

Problem Solving

Identifying workplace related problems and suggestions for appropriate solutions. May need to gain assistance from senior staff and must take constructive criticism.
