Course Title: Postgraduate Certificate in Global Sustainability Leadership

Candidates applying for the Postgraduate Certificate must hold a minimum second class honours degree (2.2) or higher or equivalent third level qualification in any discipline.

Applicants whose first language is not English must attach a certified qualification of proficiency in English as the programme is conducted through the medium of English. International students who have studied their undergraduate programme entirely through the medium of English may be exempt from the minimum English Proficiency requirement when applying for postgraduate programmes at TU Dublin. However, this is dependent on the International Student Office receiving certified documentation confirming that the undergraduate programme was studied through the medium of English. This certified documentation should be from the third level Institution where the applicant graduated with his/her undergraduate degree. However, TU Dublin may request that the applicant present an English Proficiency qualification if the International Student Officer is not satisfied with the applicant's level of English.

Applicants not meeting the normal entry requirements but with relevant prior experiential learning may be proposed by the Programme Coordinator for exceptional entry by submitting an Exceptional Entry application to the sub-committee of Faculty Board.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Global Sustainability Leadership is the result of a unique partnership between TU Dublin and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). The course will develop leaders in sustainability, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution, and champions of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is unique in the global education market, with innovative teaching and learning, a diverse global lecturing team, and impact at its core.

The SDGs are embedded in all modules of the programme where learners are facilitated to develop their disruptive thinking. Defined by an interdisciplinary approach, there is an emphasis on leadership and entrepreneurial solutions to achieve the UN 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. The modules are designed to enable students to develop sustainability competencies in line with the EU GreenComp sustainability framework and UNESCOs eight sustainability competencies.

The programme is run jointly with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). It is delivered fully online and is asynchronous by design, facilitating flexible studying part time for learners based around the globe, and enhancing digital literacy. High quality lecture videos are provided through our virtual learning platform Brightspace, and peer interaction is facilitated through discussion forums, group projects, and other online activities. All seminars and guest talks will be recorded, many will take place on Microsoft teams where live attendance will also be an option.

This course comprises 30 ECTS credits of modules over two semesters. Students take three modules in each semester including in Sustainable Economic Development, Sustainability Leadership, Entrepreneurship in Conflict and Peace, and Critical Thinking Creativity Imagination and Perspectives.

The course is fully online and asynchronous (students access course material such as lectures, readings, and assignments on their own time). Moderated discussion forums will provide opportunities to engage with lecturers and other students. Lectures will be pre-recorded and uploaded to our virtual learning platform Brightspace. Live seminars and guest lectures will give students the opportunity for interactive engagements but will also be recorded and uploaded to Brightspace. The course is delivered over two semesters.
