Course Title: Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Food Business Operations

Candidates applying for the Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Food Business Operations must hold a minimum second class honours degree (2.2) or higher or equivalent third level qualification in any discipline.

The course takes place 3 days per week across Aungier Street, Grangegorman and UCD Belfield.

This Diploma in Sustainable Food Business Operations is designed to equip current and aspiring food business operators, particularly in the SME Food production and processing sector with comprehensive knowledge of sustainability principles and trends within the food sector. The course aims to provide the know-how to apply evidence based sustainability tools to decision-making to incorporate recognised sustainability practices into food business.

You will study modules such as Sustainability Principles, Sustainability Leadership, Climate Change, Food Industry Sustainability, Food Processing & Allergen Management, Quantitative Risk Assessment, Bioeconomy – Sustainable Food Production, and Food Processing & Allergen Management.

Students will experience a practice-first environment with a focus on real world application of theory. TU Dublin is committed to producing work-ready graduates and this programme is designed to be close to industry and the professions.

Students will have access to our work-readiness Seminar Series alongside our broader postgraduate community in the Faculty of Business. In addition, as detailed in many of the modules and assessment, learning is shaped by industry involvement and interaction. The Careers Service, alongside the programme team, will add non-credit activities to help students prepare for career change and/or advancement and provide one-to-one support to facilitate the students' progression.

The nature of this course requires students to engage with perspectives from fields of Food Science, Leadership, and Sustainability. Students are also required to take a core module from UCD with a view to creating interdisciplinary expertise alongside University partnership. These elements of the course proposal emphasizes collaboration as a core value – enhancing the connection between enterprise and higher education, building links between students and academics across HEIs, targeting a key area for talent development to design and deliver the most relevant course to support job creation and expansion in food business operations.

The School of Food Science and Environmental Health in TU Dublin is also home to the Food Innovation Lab – offering skills and expertise in food and beverage product development, opening up these cutting-edge facilities and research expertise in TU Dublin to companies. This collaboration with industry feeds real world context and preparedness opportunity to our programmes, ensuring not just content but work placement and project are designed to deliver highly relevant employment experiences.

3 days per week across Aungier Street, Grangegorman and UCD Belfield. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the provisional timetabled days for this course.

The primary mode of delivery is in the classroom, with some content blended.
