Educating for Sustainability - Staff CPD

Published: 20 Sep, 2023

In response to the SDG 4.7, which requires learners to acquire knowledge and skills for sustainability, the new Educating for Sustainability CPD module* addresses a gap identified by the National Strategy on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in ‘preparedness of lecturers to facilitate the type of participatory learning associated with balancing social and economic well-being with Earth’s ability to replenish its natural resources.

The application of learnings from this module are also in line with priorities identified in TU Dublin's Strategic Intent to 2030, the TU Dublin Sustainability Education Framework and the priorities of upcoming school and programme review.

Learning outcomes

  1. Demonstrate transformation in sustainability literacy through developing sustainability knowledge, skills, and mindsets, which is underpinned by the interconnectedness of environmental, social, and economic dimensions.
  2. Critically appraise sustainability-related approaches and frameworks to evidence-based curriculum design that will lead to seamlessly embedding sustainability into the curriculum and align with ESD policy, competences, and reporting frameworks.
  3. Create cognitive, affective and behavioural learning opportunities through innovative pedagogical practices that lead to transformative learning and the enhancement of sustainability mindsets.
  4. Develop strategies for collaboration and co-creation with various stakeholders that will lead to the development of innovative solutions to complex sustainability challenges.

Module delivery mode
The module is delivered through several asynchronous individual and peer activities (up to 15 hours) and in-person workshops (9 hours).

It is anticipated that the programme will begin in late October with self-paced asynchronous learning activities. With in person workshops taking place on Fridays in October and November.
