WorldSkills Ireland National Cloud Computing Competition 2022

The WorldSkills Ireland National Cloud Computing Competition took place last week over three days from the September 13-15 at the RDS in Ballsbridge.

The final five competitors were challenged with a simulation of real world internet scenarios designed by Amazon Web Services (AWS). The competitors had to apply the best practices in Cloud Computing to architect the best solution using cloud services. The winner of this important competition earns a prestigious silver medal from the Department of Education and skills and also a candidate to represent Ireland in the WorldSkills International competition in France (Lyon) 2024.   

This year’s winner, Ghiath Shaal, is a TU Dublin Computing student based on Tallaght Campus. Ghiath described this competition as challenging but enjoyable experience. 

Ghiath Shaal has big shoes to fill for 2024 International competition- In the 2019 international competition the competitor representing Ireland, Olivier Bal-Petré won the gold medal for Cloud Computing skill in Kazan, Russia in 2019. 

The 2022 WorldSkills Cloud Computing competition originally set for Shanghai has been moved to Seoul, Korea this October. Conrad Marais, another TU Dublin Enterprise Computing student is representing Ireland at the International event in Korea where 16 nations are registered to participate. 

After Korea is the next WorldSkills Cloud Computing takes place in 2024 in Lyon, France where Ireland is already preparing to participate.
