Lorraine began the BSc in IT Management programme in IT Tallaght (TU Dublin) as a mature student in 2005 and graduated in 2009 with a first-class honours degree. In 2009 Lorraine was awarded an IRCSET Scholarship to complete a research project “MEDeLEARN: An Ontology-Driven Virtual Learning Environment for Healthcare Professionals” This project created an innovative virtual learning environment which addressed the needs of a group of healthcare professional in a large Urban Hospital. This enabled training in the used of medical information systems to take place independent of time or location, within the context of the individuals’ role and responsibilities.

In 2011 she joined the Department of Computing, and since then has successfully delivered many Information Technology modules on undergrad, Higher Diploma and conversion programmes in TU Dublin. She also plays a major role in the Springboard+ upskilling initiative and HCI Capital Initiative (HCI) Pillar, developing new programmes at certificate, degree and master’s level which led to qualifications in IT areas where there are employment opportunities. Lorraine also co-ordinates part-time programmes, projects and Experiential Learning modules.

In September 2021, Lorraine was awarded the Post of Convene Educational Developer (Enterprise Fellow). CONVENE is a project led by TU Dublin working jointly with UCD Innovation Academy, has been awarded funding of €17.5 million. This major initiative aims to ‘Transform university-enterprise engagement for a new co-learning ecosystem in Dublin’. Lorraine is currently working on a digital skills career programme which is due to be mainstreamed in 2022.
