The aim of the TU Dublin Research and Innovation Awards is to recognise and reward the positive contributions of the research & innovation community in the pursuit of their goals in pushing the boundaries of knowledge for the greater good of society. The awards supported by the Vice President for Research and Innovation, celebrate commitment and research and innovation excellence of staff from all disciplines across the university.

Categories

Categories

Applications for Award are invited for researchers and innovators in the following categories:

Early-Career Researcher Award

  • Recognition of research excellence commensurate with career stage
  • To qualify for this category, nominees must have less than 8 years full-time equivalent (FTE) experience in research, measured from the date of award of their first research degree (L9 or 10). The period spent on leave and/or in a non-research position should be completely deducted from the FTE experience in research.

Established Researcher Career Award

  • Recognition of distinguished achievements/outstanding contributions commensurate with someone at an established career stage.
  • To qualify for this category, nominees must have 8 years or more full-time equivalent (FTE) experience in research, measured from the date of award of their first research degree (L9 or 10). The period spent on leave and/or in a non-research position should be completely deducted from the FTE experience in research.

 Excellence in Research Supervision Award

  • This award aims to recognise, encourage, and reward sustained excellence over time in their supervision of postgraduate research degree students.
  • The award is open to staff at TU Dublin who have had supervisory responsibility for postgraduate research degree students.

Excellence in Provision of Support to Researchers 

  • Recognition of the contributions of staff from TU Dublin who provide support to researchers.
  • The award is open to staff from across the R&I function and Schools, Centres and Hubs, including administrative, management or technical support staff.

 Multidisciplinary Research Team Award

  • Recognition of an outstanding and impactful research initiative or project based on a collaborative multidisciplinary team approach, involving two or more members of staff from different research disciplines and/or external collaborators.
  • Significant milestones of the research project/initiative should have been completed in the last 3-5 years.

 Research Engagement Award

  • Recognition for a research active staff member who has created meaningful research/scholarship partnerships with non-academic societal partner(s)[1] with the goal of making effective and sustainable change.
  • Demonstrates significant engagement with the societal partner(s), from problem definition through to knowledge integration/mobilisation that addresses issues facing those partners.

Innovation Impact Award

  • Recognition for researchers who generate outstanding cultural, economic, environmental, or social impact from their research with appropriate outputs as evidence.

One to Watch Award

  • Recognising researchers who are developing project outputs with real commercial potential.

Research in Climate Action Award

  • Recognising researchers who have demonstrated real world impact, at sufficient scale to inform or generate new mitigation, adaptation, and resilience actions in response to Climate Change.

 Research in Sustainability Education Award

  • Recognising researchers who have developed and demonstrated impact in this new area of research to inform learning and teaching practices central to studying complex contemporary societal, environmental, and economic issues. 

[1] Societal partners can include service users, product users, policymakers, civil and civic society organisations, industry partners, members of the public, and other relevant stakeholders.

 

Award Details

  • The winner(s) will receive a monetary award to the value of €500 (as a voucher) and a custom plaque.

Submission Details

  1. Nomination Forms will be made available on the dedicated section of the website.
  2. The completed Nomination Form must be submitted before 5pm on September 6th, 2024.
