Module Overview

Environment Services and Materials 2

ESM 2 develops the learner’s understanding of environmental context and explores how buildings integrate with and modify their environment - focusing on community and medium scale buildings in rural and urban contexts. The module develops the principles of low energy and bioclimatic design from ESM 1 to arrive at design concepts and architectural solutions. The module explores environmental and health impacts of building materials and how to assess these. The principles and concepts of on-site renewables/resource-harvesting are explored. It provides the learner with the necessary knowledge and understanding of environment to inform the development of further studio projects.
