Module Overview

Architectural Research

The module aims to provide an opportunity, at this key stage in their education for students to learn about themselves as architectural researchers and begin to map their own path to professional status.

Students undertaking this module will be given the opportunity through an elective option to develop their design knowledge and research skills in a critical and reflective manner. A priority of the module is to demonstrate to the student, through a broad range of project options, how architectural methodologies, skill sets and competences can be applied to diverse project challenges through such lenses as EU Directive 2005/36/EC Article 46, the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland RIAI Standard of Knowledge Skill and Competences for the Practice of an Architect and the United Nations UN Sustainable Development Goals. Students can choose an elective option which allows them an opportunity to refine an existing area of strength or develop a new set of architectural skills.

The choice and allocation of elective options will be pre-approved by the Programme Team to ensure that they align with the learning outcomes of this module.
