Filters:

Introduction. Determination of pole locations and transfer function ofButterworth filters. Passband ripple. Determination of filter order fromspecifications. Normalisation. Passive filters: LC Cauer networks, Cauer Irealisations of impedances. Design of low pass, high pass and band pass Butterworthfilters. Active filters: Nodal analysis of varioussecond order active circuits. Design of higher order active filters.

Bipolar Transistors Circuits:

Review of bipolar transistors, Ebers-Moll equation,small signal equivalent circuit, analysis of CE, CB and CC circuits. Thedifferential pair, differential and common mode signals, small signal operation,differential and common mode input resistance, voltage gain, CMMR. Biasing inBJT integrated circuits, the current mirror, current sources. AC and DC analysis of a simple operational amplifiercircuit. The Miller Effect and the cascode amplifier. Introduction to power circuits and systems.

Feedback:

Review of feedback, description of two port networks, the four basicfeedback topologies, analysis of some typical feedback amplifiers. Positivefeedback oscillators: The Barkhausen criterion, amplitude control, the Wienbridge oscillator, the phase shift oscillator, LC oscillators, the quadratureoscillator, crystal oscillators. Relaxation oscillators: square and triangular wavegenerators.
