Medical Laboratory Management 1: Management and Quality

This module is designed to introduce the student to the core concepts of laboratory management to enable them to apply this knowledge in the modern day clinical laboratory. Students will be introduced to management theory, human resources, quality management systems, and project management tools. Students will also develop an awareness of the ethico-legal responsibilities of the manager.

This module will be delivered using a blended approach, whereby the content will be delivered both face-to-face and in an online/distance format, using Brightspace as the core E-learning package. The face-to-face contact will be in the form of induction sessions, video presentation, and workshops. Online teaching and learning activities will include: analysis of case studies, peer-to-peer learning sessions, simple process analysis, online instruction in use of project management software, live videocast tutorials and online lectures. Students will also be required to engage in peer-to-peer learning and ongoing discussions using Brightspace. The sessions will be driven using a problem based approach and students will have prescribed reading material for each session
