Industrial Biotechnology Placement

This module involves a period of planned work experience in a relevant industry or research establishment for third year students of the BSc in Industrial Biotechnology.

  • Mandatory attendance at C.V. Preparation, LinkedIn and Interview skills workshops by career development centre. 

  • Introduction to industrial placement. 

  • The recruitment and selection process, marketing yourself, CVs, cover letters, tailoring of application to specific work placement 

  • Introduction to EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) in the workplace 

  • Introduction to H&S considerations and training in the workplace 

  • Sustainability considerations in the workplace 

  • Consideration of a range of attributes important for internships e.g., time management, adaptability and self-confidence; teamwork, collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills  

  • Sourcing suitable industry or research establishment. 

  • Review of the Industrial placement handbook 

  • Guidelines for completion of Initial training agreement: 

    • mid-placement review: 

    • final review appraisal and sign off: 

    • Guidelines for industrial placement report preparation and rubric 

    • Oral presentation and rubric 

The module will include mandatory workshops, tutorials and presentations to prepare students for an approved industrial placement. The student will engage in self-directed learning and experiential on-the-job learning in a relevant industry or research establishment.
