The aim of this module is to give the learners an understanding of Electrical systems. Learners will develop an understanding of the fundamentals of AC and DC circuits. For AC circuits the module will cover single and three phase systems and learners will also cover Power in AC circuits including power factor correction.
Electrical Safety
Electrical safety precautions, Electrical safety standards, Protection Devices, Lockout Tagout procedures, Earthing and Bonding, Circuit loading.
DC Power Theory
Resistive circuits, Parallel and Series resistor DC circuits, Voltage and current divider circuits, Ohms Law, Kirchhoff’s voltage and current laws, Thevenin’s Theorem, Power in DC circuits
AC Power Theory
Capacitive and Inductive reactance’s, Series and Parallel RLC circuits, Power in AC circuits (True, Reactive, Apparent), Power factor calculation, Power Factor Correction.
AC Power Systems
Single phase power, Three phase power , Star and Delta systems, Line and Phase Voltage and current relationships, Balance and Unbalanced 3 phase loading
