Creative Digital Design

The aim of this module is to enable Hospitality and Tourism students to understand the importance of evolving technologies for their sector, reinforced by employing an array of usable practical design fundamentals in desktop publishing and graphic design pertinent to the sector's increasing digital breadth.

Fundamentals of Design

Fundamentals of Design, Composition, Typography, Images, Colour

Desktop Publishing

Practical introduction to publishing for the non-design professional. Concepts expolored include: Typograhy, leading, kerning, family of fonts, drop caps. Dynamic symmetry, symmetry, white space, layout, style sheets, grids, widows, visual effects, white edge, bleed, slug, vector images, scaling, colour wheel etc.

Digital Hospitality and Tourism

Investigation of topical digital innovations and their impact on the sector: E-procurement, E-commerce, E-bookings & Apps; Social media; Emerging technologies; Artificial intelligence; Digital ethics.

History of Printing & Design

The history of Design, from Egyptian Hieroglyphics, The Renaissance, The Guttenberg Printing Press and much more.

Digital sessions in computer laboratory, Task Demonstrations, City Media Excursion, Tutorials/Crits, Guest Lecturer, Sharing of design ideas, Discussions (brand loyalties, definitions of taste etc.)
