The aim of this module is to introduce students to a range of interpretive tools, frameworks and approaches to the study of the histories of photography, drawing on primary sources and an understanding of the practices of historiography. Case studies are used to interrogate the movements, themes and techniques emerging during this period with particular emphasis on the role of photography in relation to Modernism and how the relationship between the photographic and urban life evolves under Modernity.
