In semester 1, you’ll be honing your analytical skills both as scholars, and as insightful and informed creative artists. Each week, you’ll be guided to develop your knowledge of a particular topic (through lectures, readings, and exercises); to think about how that knowledge connects to your own understanding; and to then use those insights to contribute to a lively discussion. You will be able to demonstrate your new skills by writing a research essay on a set question at the end of each semester.In semester 2, you’re going to be exploring complex ideas and theories to see how they relate to theatre, theatremakers and audiences. As ever, each week you’ll be guided to develop your knowledge of a particular topic (through lectures, readings, and exercises); to think about how that knowledge connects to your own understanding; and to then use those insights to contribute to a lively discussion. At the end of the semester, you will use one of theoretical approaches explored this semester to analyse a play and a production in an essay.
