Electronic Applications in Healthcare

This module aims equip the student to combine sub-assemblies to design bio-electronic instrument and devices in compliance with the appropriate electrical safety regime to be used in bio-medical systems so as to ensure the safety of users and clinical staff.

Electrical Safety:

Physiological effects of electricity, Earthing, macroshock, microshock, isolation, line isolation monitor,grounding, protection devices, EMI, Classification of medical equipment, Standards and codes.

Bio-medical sensors.

Biomedical sensor characteristics, driven bridges, signal-conditioning amplifiers, instrumentation and isolation amplifiers.

Electrophysiology measurement.

Physiological source of biopotentials, Surface and fine wire electrodes, electrode application and arrangements. Acquisition and analysis of ECG, EMG, EEG signals.

Data Acquisition.

Data acquisition, sampling theory, Digital signal processing, Noise and interference reduction techniques.

Electrostimulation.

Muscular electrostimulation, pacemakers, Brain stimulation

Biosensors

Biosensors systems, electrical sensing, mechanical sensing, optical sensing.

Wearable sensors.

Applications, communications, remote sensing, body sensor networks, data security.
