Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies

This module will focus on exploring the underlying technologies that enable online transactions for financial purposes such as payments, lending, and transfers. Students will investigate current technologies for web and mobile transactions. They will examine their strengths and weaknesses and understand the ways technological innovation is changing these traditional systems. This module will also provide learners with hands-on skills in disruptive technologies such as the Blockchain. Students will be exposed to the process of creating digital wallets and using cryptocurrency markets for exchange and transfer of currencies. Finally, this module will discuss the various risk factors associated with these emerging technologies.

  • Transaction processing systems. Batch VS Real-time transaction systems
  • The Nuts and bolts of online payments: Computer networks and Internet protocols for financial transactions

  • The latest trends and research in Blockchain & DLT

A collaborative learning approach is encouraged on the module, designed to facilitate critical thinking skills development through peer interaction and the encouragement of learners to apply theory to real world experiences.  In line with CoB, the overall approach to learning and teaching there will be an emphasis on real life case studies.  Visiting lectures will provide industry inputs.
