The Nature and Scope of Corporate Finance

The corporate finance framework. Role of the Corporate Financial Manager. Key financial objectives for different types of organisations. The role and impact of Capital Markets. Agency Theory and Costs.

Share and Bond Valuation

Methods of valuing shares and bonds including: net asset; revenue and profit metrics: discounted cash flow etc. Impact of using different methods of valuation. Capital market impacts on the valuation of companies.

Efficient Market Theory

Efficient market hypothesis and its implications for company managers. Differenct levels of efficiency.Impact on investors of different efficiency levels. Anomalies in market efficiency.

Investment Appraisal and Pricing

Apply investment appraisal techniques for the evaluation of proposed investment(s) for an organisation. Describe non-financial factors that may impact investment decisions. The basic principles of pricing including: cost-plus; value pricing; price sensitivity; and price customization/discrimination. Pricing techniques for marketing /advertising campaigns and projects including: retainer or value pricing or hourly rate cards. Policies of applying these techniques to the client and third parties.

Fundamental and Basic Technical Analysis

Review annual reports produced by organisations. Understanding the significance of the disclosures relating to market segments, market growth, and their relationship with the financial results. The application of fundamental metrics and ratios for competitor analysis, credit risk assessment etc. Impact of the performance of an organisation on its investors and other stakeholders
