Students will demonstrate the skills required for effective teamwork and leadership while also gaining experience in integrating and applying automation, control and design knowledge. A further aim is the development of creative problem solving skills. Students will be required to undertake three team based mini projects which emphasise different elements of the programme. Each student will be assigned a lead role in one mini project.
Teamwork Principles
Stages of team development, roles and responsibilities, effective meetings, communications, record keeping, decision making, conflict resolution, ethical considerations.
Project Scope
Define project objectives, Outline questions for investigation, proposed methodology and approach to testing and analysis, Breakdown tasks into appropriate parts or stages.
Project Planning/Management
Formulate, implement and review a plan of action. Work consistently to plan, modifying, and adapting where necessary and completing to deadline. Record activities in a log book.
Investigation
Identify and use a variety of techniques to obtain information (including standard research and electronic retrieval methods) and tackle problems appropriate to the tasks. Conduct and present an investigation appropriate to the subject matter.
Develop a Solution
Combine the efforts of the group contributions in terms of scope, project plan, final report and demonstration of a solution. Utilise codes of practice, legislation, regulations where relevant. Draw conclusions supported by evidence. Address ethical issues as appropriate.
