Module Overview

Strategic Resourcing and Talent Management

The module addresses the rhetoric and reality of resourcing and talent management. It explores the critical debates relevant to both the extant literature and professionals who operate within contemporary organisations sourcing talent from a globalised labour market. The aim is to situate talent acquisition, talent management and talent retention at the core of an organisation’s business strategy with the purpose of achieving and sustaining competitive advantage through human capital.

The module is underpinned by three mutually reinforcing themes. The first theme involves the systematic consideration of the conceptual frameworks and theoretical models grounding resourcing and talent management. This facilitates an exploration of the shaping influence of the various approaches on organisational resourcing and talent management strategies, policies, procedures and practices. The second theme involves the operationalisation of such frameworks and models by locating an organisation’s resourcing and talent management activities at the centre of its business strategy. This facilitates an exploration of how organisations align their strategic employee resourcing processes with evolving business priorities to meet current and future talent management requirements. The third theme involves the retention of staff with the requisite technical and behavioural competencies to meet current and future organisational requirements. This facilitates an exploration of the strategic and operational resourcing and talent management challenges faced by contemporary organisations, and an assessment of the implications of the choices taken and decisions made.
