This module introduces the students to Business Information systems from a business analyst point of view as opposed to a technical programmer view. It gives students the ability to simulate a real e-business by analyzing and implementing a practical system using a Relational Database Management software. This module also provides students with the ability to communicate the language of business systems with both technical and non-technical staff, and particularly management, in the workplace.
Introduction to the E-Business computer systems development lifecycle.
Introduction to important Business Information systems analysis and development techniques, including Data-flow diagramming, entity-relationship modelling and normalization.
Introduction to E-Business backend processing using Relational Database management system software.
Practical database design and implementation in the computer laboratory using an EBusiness case study
The course will be delivered by a combination of lectures and practical computer laboratory classes. The course will also involve on-line learning, extensive project work and self-directed learning.
