Contemporary Irish Culture & Society

The purpose of this module is to outline to the student the principal thematic elements which characterise culture and society in Ireland in the twenty-first century. This module will enable the student to contrast the rapid social, economic and cultural transformation which Irish culture and society has undergone in the last two decades with that prevailing in previous decades. The module aims to have the student reflect on and discuss, both orally and in writing, the changing nature of contemporary Irish society. Finally, the module will give the student an opportunity to compare contemporary Irish culture and society to his/her own culture.
