Module Overview

Leadership Development Programme

This dedicated Leadership Development Programme runs throughout the two-year MBA and provides opportunities for participants to enhance specific skills and to enhance their personal and professional leadership competencies. Knowledge of the core management frameworks and concepts is only one part of the leader’s toolkit. To be truly effective leaders must also develop a range of leadership ‘skills’ and heightened levels of self-awareness and of social, emotional and cultural intelligence. This module, as it integrates with the MBA programme, seeks to develop participants’ insights and proficiency in effective personal and professional development. This module is driven by workshops, seminars, debate, self-reflective practice and other such activities designed to further enhance the MBA participants’ academic curricular experience and specific competency development. The focused development of competencies for success lies at the heart of this module, for example: academic writing, personal and professional effectiveness; career management and leadership development and enhancement. Participants are encouraged to reflect on in-work experiences prior to and during the MBA including on the antecedents and impacts of their  interaction with work colleagues and organisation stakeholders.
The module is framed by using the psychometric tool NEO-PI-3, to identify individual leadership profiles, then seeks to develop competencies through one to one mentoring supplemented with a range of reflective practice assessments, workshops and seminars.

Module Content & Delivery

Learners will complete a personality profiling exercise at the outset of the programme. The feedback from this exercise, along with the feedback from other reflective exercises, will help to develop heightened levels of self-awareness, social and emotional intelligence and a reflective mindset. Beginning in the Induction part of the programme, learners will develop their knowledge of team dynamics and they will reflect on their experiences of working in teams on different tasks. Learners will be introduced to a mechanism for the effective structuring and delivery of presentations. Role plays will be used to assess learners’ level of questioning, listening and negotiation skills. This module will be delivered primarily through workshops and guest speaker seminars. Learners will be required to engage in continuous self-reflection. The module is delivered over 4 semesters.
