This module revises and builds upon the knowledge gained from Level 5 (NFQ) mathematics (Ordinary Level) and it also provides mathematical background required to successfully complete the engineering modules on this course. The aim of this module is to give students a good mathematical basis for manipulation of standard techniques and apply them to engineering problems.

Functions and their graphs, composite functions

Trigonometry and trigonometrical equations

Properties of waves (frequency, period, amplitude, phase)

Cartesian, polar and exponential form
Differential calculus
Basic rules and application to finding critical points of functions
This module will be delivered by means of lectures, assignments and is accompanied by tutorial classes.
