This module covers a range of areas from information systems, networks with practical components in the areas of databases, web design and spreadsheets. The module has two lectures a week with practical components having one class in the computer laboratory.
Information Systems
Business Processes and automating business process through Information Technology. Classification of Information Systems, transaction processing systems, management information systems, decision support systems, executive information systems. Organisational Applications, Enterprise Resource Planning, Supply Chain Management and Customer Relationship Management.
Database management systems (DMBS)
Different types of DBMS, Relational Model, Entity Relationship Diagrams, Practical use of DBMS.
Networks
Theory of networks. OSI model and TCP/IP. Application of networks in business. Convergence of digital technology. Internet of Things.
Web design
Web Publishing Technologies. Creating and publishing Web Pages.
Spreadsheets
Applications in Marketing and business. Use of tables, if statements and lookup functions. Probability calculations.
Computer practical classes on database management systems, web design and spreadsheets. Lectures on the theory of information systems, database design and networks with extensive examples in each area.
