The aims of this module are to provide learners with an understanding of design and web technologies: what they are, how they're changing people's engagement with content (all content including marketing), and how businesses are changing (or should be changing) to accommodate them.
Web Technologies
- An overview of content related web technologies out there
- How to assess a web technology (eg who is using it, what content exists)
HTML & CSS
- How websites are constructed, what tools can be used including content management systems
- The semantic web
User Experience Design
- What is UX, what do UX designers do?
- UX teams - what they look like, where they sit in business
- The tools of the UX designer (eg. wireframes, card sorting, etc)
- UX processes (eg agile, persona workshop, etc)

Marketing Impact
- Assess the impact of web technologies on marketing
• Learning will take place in a classroom environment with access to IT resources. Where appropriate classes will take place in a computer lab environment with access for each student.
• Learners will have access to library resources, both physical and electronic.
• Module materials will be placed on Blackboard, the College’s virtual learning environment.
Extensive use will be made of contemporary Case Studies. Industry experts and marketing professionals will deliver real-life case studies in the class room environment and provide guest lectures on emergent topics.
