Module Overview

Keyboard Performance Studies 1

Building on the student’s existing levels of achievement as Keyboard performers, this module (choice of piano, organ, harpsichord, classical accordion) lays the foundation for the development of each student’s technique, artistic expression and individual musical personality through one-to-one lessons with Principal Study lecturers, through participation in a Keyboard Performance Class and by participation in masterclasses where appropriate.

Principal Study: In their individual lessons, students are encouraged to pursue their personal approach to music through the exploration of appropriate repertoire, stylistic awareness, sight-reading and memory skills. These skills are complemented by the development a healthy technique and physiological awareness.

Keyboard Performance Class: This weekly class provides an important transition from the one-to-one lesson to the eventual public performance. Students perform works in various stages of preparation in a collegiate ambiance and benefit from the development of peer- and self-criticism.
