This module explores the role of music in religious worship. The module concentrates on the Jewish and Christian traditions but some other world religions will be considered in less detail. Liturgical practices in varying religious traditions will be examined in a historical and geographical context and the development of the role of music in these contexts will be assessed. Particular attention will be given to the use of psalms and hymns in worship
