Module Overview

Teaching Practice

This is a core module for Pedagogy Majors and it builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in the music education modules taken in Stages 2 & 3. The module provides students with practical teaching experience in a professional environment. Teaching Practice placements suitable to each student’s instrument / voice are arranged by Conservatoire management, usually within the Junior Conservatoire. Each student is allocated a Teaching Practice Supervisor who monitors students’ teaching and provides feedback and advice. In addition, Principal Study lecturers provide further support and guidance on instrument / voice specific issues. The module is supported by the Instrumental/Vocal Pedagogy 2 module where students are expected to report on their teaching practice experience and recorded excerpts from their teaching are observed and analysed within the class setting.

Guidelines and procedures for Teaching Practice placements can be found in the Student Handbook.
