This module builds on the skills acquired in Composition Portfolio 1 by further exploring 20th/21st-century composition techniques, examining post-modernism, spectral composition and other present-day trends, and continues to develop skill in the disciplines of creative composition and self-expression. The student completes a substantial portfolio of compositions (including one orchestral or large-ensemble work), over the course of which they are supported in the emergence of an original compositional voice, through composing for various media. Compared to Composition Portfolio 1 there is more emphasis on writing for large ensemble, with a focus on contemporary orchestration and extended instrumental and vocal techniques.
