This module introduces dispensing optics students to contact lenses, providing them with the basic science underpinning contact lenses. An understanding of the basic principles of patient assessment for contact lens wear and their application will be acquired. They will also learn about anterior eye disorder identification, referral and patient recommendations

Contact lens-related anterior segment anatomy and physiology
Contact lens insertion and removal
Identify and implement differential diagnoses for symptoms and signs of commonly-encountered anterior ocular diseases and injuries of the lids, lashes, pre-ocular tear film, conjunctiva, cornea, iris, anterior chamber, crystalline lens.
Identify, initiate and facilitate appropriate referral pathways for patients with commonly-encountered anterior ocular diseases and injuries, including appropriate communications with other healthcare and eyecare professionals along these pathways. Appropriate record-keeping in relation to assessment and referral of commonly-encountered anterior ocular diseases and injuries.
